A Glimpse of Nature

Hello everyone! I was going to be showcasing a photography challenge this week but unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, I was quite ill so I cannot deliver that today. Instead, I am going along the same theme and will just be showing you some of my nature photography that I have captured. Some new shots but also some old gems that I found on my laptop!

These beautiful animals were captured when I was away on holiday a few years ago in Kielder Forest, Northumberland. We stayed in this amazing cute little log cabin where the birds used to fly down onto the wooden railing and just perch there. It was the perfect opportunity that I could not miss, and these were the best of many shots I captured. The bottom left is a male chaffinch and the top two are of a female chaffinch. These compared to the bottom four, were taken with my old Tamron lens which I talked about in a previous post. As you can see the lens still produced good quality pictures :) They are edited with a change in the contrast because that is one point about the Tamron, that in some situations the colours can be slightly dull.

Background of the Day

These were taken a while ago as I stated, so unfortunately I cannot talk in depth about the background of the pictures. I do remember for all of the bird ones, is that I sat silently on the decking and positioned my camera ready and then hardly moved it. This meant that I could snap as many pictures as possible in one go and then after I would go through them and assess the ones that came out the best, the not so good ones, and the ones that has potential to edit.

These two flower pictures were ones that I edited a bit differently and I am happy with the end result. I really do love experimenting in Lightroom and seeing which settings work on some pictures, and not on others. What do you think? I especially love the left one because of how the whole image is black and white but the yellow can still be seen but is more dulled; making the contrast between the colours stand out. These were shot on my kit lens that came alongside my Canon.

Background of the Day

My sister brought my mum these so I thought I would just snap a few pictures as they started to open. They were just in their vase and then a couple of days later I decided to edit them and after a couple of changes, I thought they were funky and turned out cool. Would anyone be interested in the future for me to do a more in depth post about how I use Lightroom and edited not only these, but other pictures? Let me know on here or DM me on Instagram: lucyniamhh_

All of these were captured at Holkham Hall, a beautiful place to visit where you can witness wildlife and go for beautiful walks around the park. These were taken on my new lens, the one I discussed in the same post as the Tamron. It can give you a look into how the quality is and the kind of pictures it takes compared to the other wildlife ones above the Sunflower shots. I can definitely see that the colour is more vibrant/brighter and that there is some more sharpness in the detail of the image in certain areas. They are entirely different subjects of course so you have to take that into account.

If you have not seen the post I did that discussed the comparison between my old lens and my new one, check it out: Comparison of Camera Lenses.

Background of the Day

I have never seen barnacle geese there before so it was a surprise when we arrived and as I always do, I whipped out my camera and took advantage of the situation. They were not really bothered by our presence unless we went right up to them, which obviously I would not do. This was perfect as it allowed me to easily take the pictures. The deer are always living at the Hall but they constantly move around the land ( due to there being many acres ) so I was only able to capture a small number of them when I went. Usually they are in a big group but on this day, I was not lucky enough to see that. I am happy with the end result though as it can be difficult getting close enough, because of how any sudden moves or if you go too quick, can scare the deer off.

It was actually my mum that spotted the seagull diving for food and because of this, I managed to snap a variety of pictures as the seagull searched for its lunch. I have more that I am in the process of editing so will for sure share them in the future :) It can be difficult snapping moving subjects, but you just have to have your camera in the right setting which can take time to figure out. Once you do, like I am still doing, you just have to experiment and learn the best way to shoot. I usually just pick the moving subjects setting on my camera and then take maybe a dozen pictures, depending the subject and what of picture I am going for. Either that or I go for manual and adjust the settings myself, I normally would do this if the shot was quite complex and there were many factors to consider.

A short and sweet one today! I still wanted to get up a post and of course I love sharing my photography so decided it would be easy enough to do while I am poorly. I hope you enjoyed and I am always open to feedback in the comments:)

Stay safe and well, Lucy xoxoxo
