Hello, everyone. Today I am bringing you some photography that I recently captured in my garden when the weather was glorious. The flowers are just beginning to open and this time of year is always my favourite because it feels like everything is coming to life. The sun being out also makes me feel more positive and when I find myself bored or stuck in a rut because of the current situation, I will usually nip out in the garden and sit in the sun.
I am really trying to develop my knowledge on my camera and have spent most days researching how to use all of the different settings . I am discovering that my images are so much more sharper and just in general nicer to look at. Whereas before, I usually just used the auto setting and never ventured beyond that. I love learning new things about my Canon as it gives me the opportunity to explore different styles/ways of taking pictures and makes them the best quality they can be.
Most of the photos are flowers but there are also a couple of other ones sprinkled in. When taking these images, I used my Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 Lens for Canon. To capture the detail and sharpness of the image, I used a small aperture. This ensures the subject stands out and the background is blurred, bringing what I am picturing to the maximum focus. A huge point that I have only recently discovered after eventually exploring my camera ( I am unsure why I didn't before, I think it was the idea of being overloaded with information lol) is that the shutter speed is extremely important when taking closeups. You have to match your shutter speed to the focal length of your lens. For example, my lens was zoomed in at its maximum - 300mm - which means I have to higher my shutter speed to a level that is 300 or just over. That way the speed of the shutter is in line with the focal length, providing you with the image you desire.
It takes a lot of patience and experimenting, as you do not always receive the image you want at first. You will need to play around with the settings to achieve the images potential, as each one has different factors that may affect the quality compared to the one before. The main one being lighting and that's why exposure is another key aspect in maintaining an image so that is not overexposed or underexposed.
If like me you struggle to keep a lot of information in your mind, I found writing down key points for each setting in a small notebook helpful, as this allowed me to carry it around with me so I do not have to worry about forgetting anything; I can easily refer to the notebook so my mind is refreshed with the knowledge of the settings I need to adjust for the particular image I am taking.
