Happy (belated) Halloween!!

Writer's picture: lbeckwith122lbeckwith122

Hey everyone! A surprise post for you all :) Like last year, I thought I would do a spooky makeup look and just chat to you about it. It was a last minute look but I did have the idea to do some sort of easy clown makeup, a slight advancement to the cracked face look I did last year. You can see that here: Happy Spooky Day. My makeup skills are basic at best so I did not want anything too hard! I also did a reel with the look, so check that out if you wanna see me awkwardly dance: Insta Reel.

I hope you all had a good Halloween, whether you stayed in or went out. This was our first in the new house and for the first time since we were younger, we carved a pumpkin. It was an activity we had to do as it felt like we were almost christening the new house by starting our stay here with something new! It was not overly enjoyable but the end result was worth it I guess...

I hope you all enjoy and be prepared to be spooked (not!)

Halloween over here is not a huge deal. People do have pumpkins and decorations out, more so than I saw in the area I used to live in the UK. We live on a semi main road that is fast and busy, with no proper paths, due to this fact we did not anticipate many people coming for the sweets and that is exactly what happened! It rained heavily and we only ended up having two kids come from next door, only really because their uncle owns the house we are renting lol. A quiet one for sure!

Other people definitely had a ball as there was plenty of fireworks!

Now onto the best bit:

The Makeup Look

What do you all think? I am actually happy with the end result; except the triangles turned out a little bigger than I wanted, but for a first time, its alright. (Just to add, that is not sweat on my face, it is the reflection from my mini studio light I use for my phone). After thinking up the clown idea, coincidently I was scrolling on Tik Tok and found someone with the exact look I was envisioning, I then screenshotted the video and roughly copied the makeup, adding my own twist of course.

I shot these on a blank white wall in the dark, using a tripod and a small phone ring light so I could produce the best pictures without having to prop my phone up somewhere random. I thought the darkness with me illuminated was the perfect way to match the spookiness.

I did not do much for my outfit as it was such a last minute thing. I did have an idea to wear my old prom dress as it is red so would match the clown vibes well. However, after thinking over the idea of me being a unique clown prom attender, I decided against it, mostly due to the fact it would be hassle. Instead I threw on all black, with a white turtle neck underneath my top. Not really sure why? It was the best I had. The makeup is the centre of attention really and all eyes will hopefully be drawn to that and not my shambles of an outfit... it is not like I was leaving the house either...

Makeup

  • I used the Makeup Revolution palette that I mentioned on a previous post. They do not sell that exact one anymore but there is such a variety of similar ones that you can browse through on the website.

  • To do the lines from my eyes to my mouth and the outline of the triangles, I used a eyebrow brush as I found that gave the most precision. Then for the eyes, the nose and the filling in of the triangle, I used a buffing eyeshadow brush, along with a normal flat one for the corners.

  • All of the red was done with one shade from the palette. I then added a little amount of a darker shade on my eyes, with a touch of silver to blend out the red from the same palette. To complete the eyes, I added a small amount of dark brown eyeliner to the outer corner.

  • The lipstick is Brave Red from Mac and is such nice glossy shade to wear, compared to a matte one I own. It smudges easy tho so be careful.

Edits

I did a few edits on each image. I adjusted the same settings across all of the images, just changing how much of each I did and whether I added or lessened certain aspects. The one thing I did on all of the images to remove the light reflection was to lower the whites, this seemed to help the reflection be more subtle. The other settings I changed, were:

  • Exposure: To make the brightness appear more balanced and to make certain features stand out more.

  • Contrast: To soften the image if certain aspects looked too bold.

  • Highlights: To lighten or darken the image.

  • Shadows: To remove any flares that the light produced and to darken or lighten certain aspects.

  • Blacks and Whites: To make either colour stand out or blend in more; depending on what looked the best for each individual image.

  • The boldness of the red: pretty self explanatory lol.

  • Clarity: To soften the red as in some images it was brighter than others. It also helps soften facial features.

  • Noise/Colour Reduction: To remove any pixels and to generally make the images clearer.

As you can see, I also did one of the images black and white overall. I thought this was fitting, and I thought that it looked its best with no colour; producing a different and unique look compared to the others :)

When I had finished vibing as a clown and had done all of my pictures (I took around 60 lol, you need a good choice!) I went to remove this makeup. That is when I made the mistake of trying to use only water. You can guess, it barely came off and it stained my face red :( Luckily, I had nowhere to go so that was alright. I made another failed attempt at removing it with some Garnier Micellar Water and only succeeded when I used my Rose Clay Cleanser from Makeup Revolution! That saved me, and it is good stuff. It removed all of my redness after I massaged it gently in my skin. Phew, all was well and I could relax.

There we have it! The breakdown of my spooky make up look. I do really enjoy doing looks like this so I may experiment more with makeup. If it goes well, you may see a future post with that content but if you do not, well then you know that it either flopped or I did not bother...

Halloween is over again for another year. I hope you all enjoyed my participation, with my clown vibes. If you could even call it that? I suppose I made the effort hehe. I hope you all enjoyed just having a little chat and seeing my makeup attempt!

Stay safe and well, Lucy xoxoxo

I tried to find a clown gif, but they all freaked me out... instead have a pumpkin.
