Hi everyone! Today I have a new post idea, which is to give you all some of my recommendations for things in my life that I have discovered, and could not live my day to day life without! There will be a range of categories that I will include, and I hope that some of these things become necessities to you or things just for you to enjoy :) I know that some items I discuss will not appeal to some of you, but I am hoping others will, so stick around as I am sure you will spot something.
I will link the items, so if you fancy having a little look at something, just press one of the blue buttons and it will take you straight to the item ( that is if I can find all of the items, some are quite old hehe ).
Enjoy! :)
Makeup
I really struggle with flat eyelashes and I have tried many products and hacks to try and give them length/volume. However, none of these techniques work and I have even tried eyelash curlers and still nothing! So after testing out mascara after mascara, and most of them being fails, I have finally discovered two that are my staples! One I discovered a while ago and the other I just recently tried, and loved. Both have to be waterproof though.
= Old fav.
= New fav.
Kiko Eyeshadow I really love the colours, consistency and colour pay-off of these specific eyeshadows and I also love the packaging, and how compact they are. I first tried them recently when their store came to my local mall which unfortunately has closed down since Covid :( and now I cannot find the same ones online but I will link similar ones. I also think I will be buying more soon as I really want a couple of funky colours, because the ones I have currently are more muted tones.
Kiko Lip-Glosses I have never really been one for using a gloss because I just always saw them as a faff and something for my long hair to stick to when it was windy ( lol ). However, when in the store and purchasing the eyeshadows, I saw them and thought they actually looked really pretty, so I decided to get one and try it out. To my surprise, I loved it and it was the perfect match to all of my lipsticks as I only really wear brown shades. It has not got that horrible sticky feel to it either which is something that I have experienced with others in the past, and disliked! A deffo staple and I have used the gloss most days since :)
Skincare
Anne French! This is a product I have always used and it is a cleansing milk that I apply in the evening before bed and then wash off gently with warm water. My mum has used it for forever, she was advised by my auntie as she had used it for even longer. My skin is rather sensitive to new things so this is the perfect match because it is very soothing and is not harsh at all. My skin always feels hydrated and soft afterwards and my mum/auntie have never really had troubled skin since using it, and nor have I. Anytime I ever try anything else to replace it, my skin has a hard time adjusting so I always go back to it.
I have a sad revelation, and that is I cannot find it anywhere online :( We used to order it from Savers costing £2.99 but it is no longer available online, however the store in our local area still does sell it. I would say just look in your local Savers, otherwise try Boots or Superdrug. A last resort would be Amazon but it is super expensive! A good product nonetheless and something I will never stop using.
I really struggle with pores on my nose and forehead area. I have tried many products like the nose strips to try and help, but I did not really have any luck with anything sadly. A few months back though I purchased some products from Revolution Beauty and none of them really stood out as anything amazing, except the 2% Salicylic Acid BHA Anti Blemish Mask ( that is a mouthful ). It advises to use it 2-3 time a week but I tend to just use it the once because of how sensitive my skin is. I have seen an improvement since using it; my pores have minimised and they are not as visible. If you struggle with the same issue I would for sure recommend it, or any other Salicylic Acid product for that matter.
Random
I have suffered for a long time with sensitive ears, and whenever I ventured out walking, something which I enjoy doing, it resulted in earache which is certainty not fun. What I ended up doing was I either had to bring a hoodie or hat, even in the warm weather, something that wasn't really practical. However, due to having a head on the larger side as well, to my annoyance, hats have never covered my ears so it was such a pointless exercise; I ended up judging the weather and not going out purposefully if I was walking far when it was really windy.
But then it was like the ear gods spoke to me and my wish was granted! ( maybe I am being slightly dramatic hehe but I did have this problem for ages ) and mum purchased some Ear Coverers after wanting them for when she rode her bike. She was suffering with the same issue but lucky for her she could wear a hat, but had another dilemma: she wanted to start wearing a helmet which would mean she could not wear the hat underneath. This lead to the purchase of the perfect solution, a product we have both loved and used thoroughly! If you suffer with the same issue then these will be a life saver, they do look a little funny but I would rather that than searing pain lol.
It is such an obvious invention yet you never think of these things straight away; we suffer until eventually we try and find something to help. It also has a whole in the back that will secure your ponytail! I have not really used this aspect but mum has fully taken advantage of it.
Does anyone else hate the process of taking off makeup? It is such a hassle and because I only wear eye makeup, wasting face pads just felt really unnecessary. I am going to be honest, I cannot actually remember how I first discovered this product, but once I did there was no going back! They are so useful/quick and definitely better for the environment. This item is the Primark three pack of Soft Face Cloths! You can find these in most places now, but these ones specifically are really good for my sensitive skin, and they are the perfect size for removing my eye makeup.
They also have different sizes if you wanted them for other uses separate from removing makeup. :) A rather simple and basic recommendation but something I will have for forever, and has been so beneficial. A good thing for travelling too. This is a non-linkable item but I will link a similar product.
TV!!
( I could literally recommend so many things but I did manage to only choose two lol . However, as I wrote so much I decided to only do one and I will save the second for next time * insert laughing face * + I am only including less talked about tv as well because I feel these will be better to discuss and more interesting than mainstream shows/films that are talked about all the time )
Ozarks! I usually watch TV with my dad in the evening and this was a random pick for us, we discovered it one day when we had just finished another show, and were browsing on Netflix looking for something to watch. We usually search for the same genre when looking for a new programme but this was a sort of different venture for us. Our chosen genre is always crime/gang related shows or films, and most of the time we will only stick with that, nothing like comedy because that is not really our jam. When we watch shows together we really enjoy discussing what we watch ( my dad would say I do all the talking but lets pretend that is not the case ) so action really gives us that opportunity to chat.
- We were not sure that it would be something we would enjoy, but we gave it a go, and after the first episode we were hooked! The show is soooo good! It does follow the same sort of theme that I discussed above, with a cartel and such but it is definitely done in such a different way to anything I have ever watched before. The acting is so real and realistic and really gives that family vibe alongside the main storyline. I do think sometimes with storylines like this one the family can feel fake, whereas this is the complete opposite, I was so invested in seeing what happened to them.
- It is easy to follow as I really struggle sometimes when shows have so many different storylines and it is so complicated, usually if that is the case I will struggle to follow along as the show/film continues. It also has no recognisable actors which is something I look for when picking, because I feel the usual Tom Hanks film etc of course can be good, but I almost feel like I am giving the smaller actors a chance when I pick less recognised tv. Anyone else feel like that?
- It does pull at your heart strings and includes really important topics that make you think... and cry... something which I did at one point and boy did I cry a lot. It is a fairly new show I gather because there is only three seasons, but another is coming soon so I am sooo excited! It is probably one of the best shows I have seen in a while, the exceptions being the usual popular ones like TWD or Peaky blinders.
- I think we are all guilty of watching things that get recommended to us or that we see circulated in the media. I think it is fun to find a niche/random pick, and doing it that way you can find some really good stuff! You can also get disappointed so it works both ways... Anyway, I was obsessed with it and when it was over I was so sad as I do like to watch a show with a few seasons, otherwise you are just waiting for the next, and it can take years sometimes for it to come out :( I think this is mostly due to my situation at the moment, the fact I am not working I have so much spare time! But once that changes, I certainly will not have this problem, it will be me then trying to find the time to squeeze in an episode.
- It is exclusive to Netflix which is why I rarely hear people talk about it, and after some research I actually discovered it is one of the best ranked crime dramas on there! So if that does not sway you to watch it, I do not know what will:) It is fun, tense, full of drama, has some nerve-racking points and it will for sure pull you in many different directions with your emotions. I will include the first trailer incase you fancy a quick look to see if the show is for you.
And there we have it. Some of my favourite things, some old favs and some new ones! I hope you have all enjoyed reading, and you take one of these things and bring it into your life, giving you as much joy as it has done for me.
Stay safe and well, Lucy xoxoxo
