Hello Everyone! I am sorry I missed a post last week, I was feeling unwell. However, I am back with another lockdown post today. Its a long one so you may want to grab a cup of tea or a snack:)
This is a bit of a random one but I thought I would give some advice on some activities to do when bored. Anyone else who is a fellow shielder or who just is bored, give this a read!
Start a new project or learn a new skill - for me this was creating this blog. I love fashion and
photography so I thought why not combine these passions into something... and I came up with this. I don't think many people will read it but at least I have somewhere to post my projects and ideas.
Other new projects you could start:
Doing something you have put off for a while like a DIY. I helped my mum paint her room as this was an idea she had to do but kept putting it off. Being inside for so long gave her the time and enthusiasm to do it! I do like cleaning and tidying so sorting out my wardrobe was another activity I found myself doing.
Another idea is doing an activity surrounding arts and crafts or just drawing in general. I have started doing some basic drawings of images or pictures I like. It also helps me with my photography as if I come across an image I like, it may give me inspiration to find a similar picture to take myself. I always need new ideas of photos to take as being inside, I am stuck with the same surroundings.
Reading! This may sound basic but reading has so many different paths and you can find a book on most things. I purchased a kindle which was another helpful item during my shielding adventure! It allowed me to easily search for books on anything I am interested in. This can also help with the art/creative idea, as you can search a book on a skill or project you want to start and it may help you along the way. I am currently reading the Witcher and then I may read Harry Potter again... If you struggle with reading there are sites where you can listen to audio books.
Printing out photos! This is a job I think we all put off and is something we can get round too now we have an abundance of free time! I use free prints which I find is the best place for me. I print the images from my phone as this is where the majority of my pictures are taken, alongside with my camera where I then transfer the pictures to my phone - it's a lot easier that way, having them all in one place.
You can always buy a photo album to place all of the photos in when you receive them which will allow you to organise them so they wont just be sitting around - this way you can kill two birds with one stone!
Workouts/Walks! If you are able to, working out is a good way of improving your motivation and it can also help you feel better within yourself. However, it is important to only do what you can manage and to know when to take a break. I find all of my workouts on YouTube but there are many places you can find good ones! I try and also get out a walk at least once a day, when the weather permits that is... It can make you feel a little bit more positive and brighter, and it can help clear your mind especially when we are inside constantly. I am lucky to live somewhere where walks are accessible for me which is advantageous, but I acknowledge that there are others who do not have this.
Cooking! This is the prime time for you to sharpen up on your cooking skills if they are lacking, Since being inside I have been experimenting with many new recipes and trying to go a bit of my comfort zone as it cant hurt! My recent favourite dishes to cook are fish ones. For my birthday I got given a cooking book for people with kidney disease, which has been very helpful. If you do a bit of browsing you can find one that suits your capabilities.
Netflix! I recently have bought a subscription and have been watching a few shows alongside my sister who also borrows it. This period in our life is the perfect opportunity to catch up on any boxsets that you have been dying to watch but have never had the time due to work or just life in general! Or just to watch the odd film.
I do try and have some non screen time though, as it is good for the mind to spend some time away from the online world. I do this by trying to map out my day so I know the time when I can watch TV or go on my phone etc. I usually have the evenings for TV and the mornings for my phone. In between I like to go for a walk or work on any of my other tasks for the day!
Finding new hairstyles/makeup! Over the course of my time inside I have researched some new hairstyles for thick hair. I have been having an issue with my hair being in my face so I have focused on finding ones that look nice but also stop my hair from annoying me! I rarely wear makeup in general, let alone indoors. However, I have been trying out new looks when I am very bored.
I have really been getting into my skincare as well. My sister brought me some products for Christmas and since then I have really enjoyed looking up new bits and finding ones that suit my skin type and that will benefit me. I currently really enjoy the BodyShop Tea Tree Range and also surprisingly, Makeup Revolution do amazing serums!
Manifesting/Meditation! I have yet to try these but over the next few weeks I really want to try and do these more. I feel it may help with my mental health and make me feel more positive. It may not be your cup of tea but if it is something that interests you, give it a go! I will probably again use YouTube for both of these.
Trying out some new games! We all saw the rave when the new game Among us was released, but like with all games the hype eventually dies down. I myself have been playing it occasionally. However, I more drift towards more physical games like: pool, darts etc. If you enjoy games this would be the perfect time for you to download one and have a go! Something we wouldn't always necessarily do when we are busy with life. Another game that I find fun is Sims, you can create all sorts of things on there, ranging from just a simple family to creating your favourite tv show character, depending on what version you have of course!
Online shopping! Visiting websites to buy the things you need/require is always a good thing to do when you find yourself twiddling your thumbs. You can maybe also do a bit of retail therapy for things you don't need... which I may have done a few times. It allows you to get things that you have never got around to getting. Always remember to only spend what you can, especially in these times when some are struggling financially. If you don't have the facilities/funds to do so don't worry,! :)
These are just some of my tips for things to do if you are struggling with boredom. I try and take one day at a time! If this just helps one person I will be happy. This is such a hard time and it can be difficult to even want to do anything. Just remember it is okay to feel down and have days where you lounge around doing nothing, I have many of them myself. Please take care of yourself and try to stay positive:) Lucy xoxoxo
