Styling out of my Comfort Zone Clothing

Hey everyone! I bring you all a glorious fashion post, styling clothing items that I am slightly unsure about; a new idea of mine. I am going to be discussing clothing that I do not always feel confident wearing or struggle to style, and together we can work out how to wear them like a boss!

Today's item is a dress... eeek! I am definitely not a dress person but my sister purchased this cute dress which unfortunately did not fit her so because she could not take it back, she offered it to me. Usually I would of declined but I do want to start venturing out so I decided to give it a go and I added it to my wardrobe.

As I always say, I am not a fashion expert ( I want to be though lol ) and I am just giving my opinion on clothing and how I wear certain things. It will not be everyone's taste but even if you are not interested in fashion, you can just see it as having a chat with me about what I like :)

The Dress :)

Styling/building the look:

As I already said I am not fond of dresses, especially the design of this particular one, but I am going to try and make it work! lol

Just a quick note: I style my outfits with items that I do not own myself, it is just a bit of fun and of course I would love to purchase all of the clothing items but that is just not feasible. I mainly choose items similar to what I have/what is my style so when I do eventually wear it, I can easily find bits of my own to go with the dress that make me feel good about myself and the way the outfit looks overall :)

As always, I recommend sourcing your clothes and accessories from places like Depop, second hand sites and Instagram shops, to find similar items to the ones I show. It is a much more sustainable way to shop and is overall better for the environment. Unfortunately, I cannot link these sites as often they are a one piece, and once one person purchases the item, it is gone. Therefore I show popular brands because of this.

Jackets

I would sure style it with an oversized jacket because it would hide my arms and it would mostly cover the dress, then making me feel more comfortable. I love these jackets in either colour, depending on what the occasion I would more opt for one than the other.

If I was wearing it in the day, I would choose the lighter one as I personally feel its more light and appropriate for the daytime. If it was a night time look, I would then go for the black, just because I feel it fits the occasion more.

I know it is summer time and dresses are for that time of year, but for me I would most likely wear it when the weather was slightly colder and appropriate for my chosen jacket. It is all about planning, planning is my coping strategy lol.... something my counsellor told me. Even when it comes to small things like my fashion choices! I would also add tights if I wore it in the winter which is an option I would consider.

Shoes Shoes Shoes

I have chosen two options for shoes that I think match perfectly and also add to me feeling more confident in with the outfit. Pairing the dress with the Heart Vans gives a more chill vibe and dresses down the look which is something I like. Whereas the sandals provide a classier look but they would only be an option if I was not walking too far as for me sandals are way too uncomfy for long days.

I am definitely more of a trainers girl because of my health I need full support on my feet so you will not really find many shoes like sandals or heels in my wardrobe. However, when I can I still really like to wear them as they can really add something and totally change the outcome of the outfit you have put together. Most say trainers do not suit dresses or items of clothing that lets say you would wear to an event etc, but I believe that fashion is versatile and trainers can really go with anything, as long as you feel confident and love your outfit. Comfort is my priority when styling clothing for me. Who wants to be going out and end up in pain? Not me.

Jewellery

Lotssss of jewellery for this outfit! I would not want all the attention on the dress so feel sometime chucky necklaces would make a statement and also fill the space above where the dress sits. Especially because it is a strapless dress, it makes it even more out of my comfort zone, so having something to fill the space is defo necessary! I like both of these necklaces and they both are a little different which fits the vibe I am going for! The pink pendant one is the best suited to the colour of the dress in my opinion, and I may even purchase it because it is so pretty, something that would go with a lot of the clothes that I own.

Again with the chunky jewellery! I am really starting to love the colourful statement earrings so I thought they would be the perfect addition to this look! I feel that I have styled it how I would wear it but I also kinda think that I may have paired some odd bits... but I suppose that is just me. I also then chose a more plain and simple pair that I would most likely wear with the pearl chain necklace, and then the pendant would go alongside the gorgeous red and blue ones.

Jewellery is definitely subjective but I have the view that an outfit without any, is quite boring. The jewellery adds an aspect of fun, especially with the pieces I have selected. My choices are on either end of the spectrum in terms of colour and being out there, but I am that sort of fashion stylist when choosing looks. I see which pieces will match with what, and I like both plain and boldness; it just depends on my mood and where I am going :)

Along with the new liking to chunky earrings, I also am fan of the chunky ring trend but you do have the right outfit for it. I chose this cute minimal chunky one that matches the colour of the dress but it is not too out there. This way it does not clash with the earrings but still looks stylish and chic.

The gold ones would go nicely with the pink ring and because they are minimal also, it really compliments the whole look by tying in the gold accents with the gold on the chain necklace. I try and match similar colours throughout all the pieces so the whole outfit has the same undertones and then that will really pull he completed look together.

There for sure are many more rings like the clay one out there, but I really like supporting small businesses on Etsy and to be honest you cannot really find rings like that on other sites, mostly because they are handmade.

Bag?

I would not style any particular bag with this outfit, because of how much colour and snazziness there is, I feel a plain neutral one would suffice. I would just grab any one of my black bags and off I would go to show the world my outfit and how you can feel good in something that is not entirely your style or to your liking. We do like to see a confident gal! and if you are not there yet, I believe in you and you will get there :) ( I am certainly not 100% there myself yet! )

There you have it! My completed outfit for a dress that does not usually take my fancy. I have linked all sites for the pieces through the blue text so if you want to have a browse, its nice and easy to do so. I did opt for Etsy for most of the jewellery as second-hand is becoming much more accessible and especially since Covid, people who sell their own items really need supporting. I will always choose that option for jewellery if whatever site I am looking on has good reviews and the items are what I am after.

I hope you all enjoyed this little chat! I have a few other items up my sleeve in my wardrobe that I want to style so I will for sure do more of these in the future. Maybe it is pointless to match my item with items I do not own, but for me it gives me inspiration by seeing what is currently out there, not only do I get ideas on what to buy but also similar items in the wardrobe that match what I see. After that, it produces an outfit I want to wear:)

Stay safe and well, Lucy xoxoxoxo
